유명 조각가 5명의 그룹전

 

 

 

 

 

LA의 다운타운 1100 S. Hope St.에 위치한 PYO GALLERY에서 현재 열리고 있는 'LA5: Sculpture That Shaped The City'라는 유명 조각가 5명의 그룹전을 보고 왔습니다.

 

남가주 문화단체 60여 곳이 참여하는 대규모 Cultural Event인 퍼시픽 스탠더드 타임(Pacific Standard Time)의 일환으로 열리는 이번 전시회는 Guy Dill, Lloyd Hamrol, Peter Shire, Michael Todd, 그리고 Robert Williams가 참여하고 있으며, 이들은 모두 미국 현대 미술계에서 빼놓을 수 없는 주요한 자리를 차지하고 있는 작가들이라 합니다.

 

 

LA5: Sculpture That Shaped The City

 

 

Guy Dill, born in California in 1946, graduated from the Chouinard Institute of Art in Los Angeles, CA. In 1972 he won the prestigious Theodoran Award at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in the New York, and in 1974 took first place at the American Exhibition in sculpture, at the Art Institute of Chiago.

 

 

Lloyd Hamrol, born in San Francisco in 1937, holds a BA and MFA from the University of California, Los Angeles. Hamrol is most associated with his large scale interactive public art pieces. Through out his career, Lloyd received three NEA Artist Fellowship Grants in 1974, 1980 and 1990.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Peter Shire, born in 1947 graduated from the Chouinard Institute of Art in Los Angeles, CA. He is known for using indusrial meterials and clay to fabricate his artworks. Shire was influenced by the Bauhaus aesthetic and ceramicist Peter Voulkos, whom introduced him to the idea, that clay could be functional and worthy as a medium for artistic ｅxpression.

 

 

 

Michael Todd, born in Nebraska in 1935, received a BFA from Notre Dame, and an MA from the University of California, Los Angeles. Todd's career has spanned over fifty years and best known for his steel and bronze combines that are based on various spintual teachings.

 

 

기하학적으로 뻗은 직선과 곡선의 조화가 아름답고 때로는 뛰쳐나갈 듯 역동적인 조각 작품을 보며 새로운 감동을 받았습니다. 작품마다 특색이 있어서 여러 재료를 혼용한 작품은 이질적 생동감을 주고 어떤 작품은 질감이 부드럽기도 하며 다른 각도에서 바라다볼 때는 다소 거친 느낌도 주는 복합적 이미지를 창출하였습니다. 

 

11월 12일까지 전시회를 연다고 하니 관심 있는 분들은 이 가을에 멋진 조각품들을 감상하시며 가을의 정취를 느껴보시기 바랍니다. 갤러리는 별로 넓지 않아 짧은 시간 내에 부담 없이 보실 수 있고 관람료는 무료입니다.
